Anyone who loves cheese like I do knows that the cheesy goodness doesn’t have to begin and end at mealtime. There are plenty of delicious ways to incorporate cheese into desserts, and I’ve discovered tons of these of recipes through my years of cheese-o-philia. From the indulgent to the luxurious, there really are endlessly versatile ways to make your dessert a little cheesy. These are some of my favorites.
Apple Cobbler is one of my all time favorite desserts. So, when I found this recipe for Apple, Blackberry, and Sharp White Cheddar Cobbler I basically thought I had stumbled into heaven. I thought, “there’s no way someone could have really combined two of my favorite things into one dessert!”. Well, someone did. The amazing thing about this recipe is that it’s made to serve 10 people, so it’s great to make for a small gathering, or for yourself to throw in the fridge and have for the whole week. The preparation is a little involved but is nothing a recreational baker couldn’t handle (I myself being one), and with a cook time of 10 minutes this is about as hassle free as tasty (and cheesy) dessert gets.
I couldn’t possibly write an article about cheesy desserts and leave out what is perhaps the most iconic of them all: Tiramisu. A disclaimer though, this Tiramisu Custard recipe isn’t exactly the classic Italian recipe, but it sure is delightful. It uses ricotta rather than the usual mascarpone cheese and I think it makes for a really uniquely tasting Tiramisu. And, it’s the perfect luxurious dessert to serve at your dinner parties because it only takes 8 minutes to prepare and no minutes to cook, so you can make it fresh after the meal. Impress your friends with this simple, elegant, and legendary dessert.
I know what you’re thinking: “What’s a post about cheesy desserts without a recipe for cheese cake?” Well, you need ponder no longer. This recipe for Chocolate Chip Cheesecake is one of my favorites, and how could it not be with that type of combination? I will say that I only attempt this recipe when I know I have time and energy to give it the focus it requires. The crust can be tricky, but if you can master this recipe it will almost certainly become one of your favorites. And since a chocolate chip cheesecake has such broad appeal, it’s another great selection for dinner parties.

There's Lots of Ways to Cook with Cheese!
You can never really have enough ways to incorporate cheese into just about every meal of the day. The good folks at Sargento are well aware of this simple yet essential culinary rule that is innate to us cheese lovers. Sometimes shredding a little parmesan over your food just doesn’t do it, and so they've compiled enough cheesy recipes to keep your pallet satisfied during mealtime or snack time. Here’s some of our favorites.
“Cheesy Chicken Casserole”
Who doesn’t like a casserole? Too few to count. And when it comes to this chicken broccoli casserole, the number’s got to be fewer. Take 10 minutes to thrown some chicken, broccoli, sour cream, breadcrumbs and some seasoning in a casserole dish, and top it all off with three (yes, three!) different types of cheddar cheese and in just under an hour you’ll be ready to dive in to a tasty dinner. The best part: it will serve 8 or hold up well in the fridge for the week’s leftovers.
“Hot Cheesy Crab Dip”
When I was growing up, the nights my mom would make her crab dip were like little gifts from above. Since she won’t give up her recipe, I’ve found this one from Sargento to be just as authentic. And something their recipe has that my mom’s didn’t: a little something called shredded pizza cheese. Topped off over fresh crab meat and enough chilis and hot sauce to keep me on my toes, I love this hot crab dip with tortilla chips as an appetizer, side dish, or late night snack.
“Healthy Pasta Salad Suprema”
There’s no reason that cheese and healthy eating have to be mutually exclusive. This pasta salad is a super light and healthy snack so it won’t give you that dense cheesy feeling that, while a favorite of mine, can limit one’s options for activity. The recipe includes tons of highly nutritious and tasty ingredients like bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, olives, garbanzo beans, and artichoke hearts. And of course it wouldn’t be complete without a topper of shredded mozzarella cheese, just mellow enough to not drown out the rest of the salad. This dish is definitely one to pack up and take with for lunch at the office…or the beach.

If you like to eat spaghetti, but get tired of eating it the same way over and over again, try something new and make spaghetti pie. There are so many different spaghetti pie recipes out there for you. I’m going to list a recipe that has a few different kinds of cheese. When choosing your cheese to add into the spaghetti, feel free to buy light cheese to save on some calories. This is a relatively easy recipe to use even if you are a novice when it comes to cooking. The only downfall to this recipe is that the prep work can be time consuming.
The name of this dish is called three cheese spaghetti pie. When you make a dish like this the easiest thing to do is gather everything you will be using and the ingredients you need so that they are easily accessible.
Ingredients
3/4lb. spaghetti noodles
9 tablespoons of olive oil
5 garlic cloves quartered
1 sliced onion
4 eggs
1 cup cream
2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon pepper
4 oz. of fontina cheese grated
8 oz. of feta cheese crumbled
8 oz. of parmesan cheese shredded
Follow these directions to have yourself a delicious spaghetti pie dinner which you and your family will enjoy. Before you start to make the wonderful dish preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Cook your spaghetti noodles until they are soft and then drain, put back in the pot, and set aside to use later. Next you need to heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet and add the garlic and onion. Add salt and pepper; and, when the garlic and onion is cooked remove them from the heat and set them aside to use later. Using a medium sized bowl beat the eggs and the cream, and mix until well blended. Add the salt, pepper, and the different cheeses. Only add in 4oz. of the parmesan, add in the garlic and onion, and the spaghetti noodles. In an oven safe skillet, heat up oil and add the spaghetti mixture. Cook for about 5 minutes and then place in the oven for an additional 30 minutes. When the pie is done remove it from the oven and let it stand for about 10 minutes. You then need to slide a spatula all around the sides and the bottom to help loosen it up. Then take a large dish and place on top of the skillet and flip the skillet and plate over and the spaghetti should slide right out. Take another plate and put it on top of the spaghetti again and flip it again. Then you need to let it stand for another ten minutes. The reason that you had to flip it twice was to help distribute the cheeses evenly throughout the whole pie. Add the rest of the parmesan to the top of the pie, slice it up and enjoy.

Facts and Tips about Cheese, Including Wine and Cheese
#1 Cheese production and consumption dates back to 8000 BC
Cheese was produced and consumed as early as 8000 BC. Around that time, sheep were domesticated. Its origins are less clear, but some scholars point to the Middle East or Turkey as the place where cheese was first produced.
#2 How to eat cheese fondue
When you are eating cheese fondue, be careful to not be stuffed once you get to the final part of the pot. The so-called “nun” is by some considered to be best part. It is actually a thin layer of hardened cheese, similar to a crust.
#3 Why cheddar cheese is so durable
Cheddar cheese is known to be able to last for a very long time, even years. The reason is that it is low in moisture. Unlike shredded low fat cheeses or other kinds of light cheese in general, cheddar cheese contains a low percentage of water, and is thus very durable. If you take cottage cheese, for instance, it will turn bad very soon because it contains so much water.
#4 How to prevent mold
In order to prevent mold on your cheese, avoid wet storage environments and always put the cheese in a box and seal it. If you also add a little bit of sugar inside the box, you can prevent mold from occurring on your cheese.
#5 Which cheese knives work best?
The answer is: If a knife is too sharp, it will not work as good as a dull knife.
#6 Which Wine and cheese?
This is almost a timeless question. Which wine should you use with which cheese? The answer is not simple, and it depends on many factors, especially your own taste.
But it is essential to remember that if you buy the cheapest wine available, well then you should probably not expect the highest quality. So if the event you need the wine for is important for you, for instance a romantic cheese fondue, you should invest in a good wine. Good wines have the advantage of being able to help release the flavor of the cheese, which is something cheap wines cannot achieve.
There is a basic rule when choosing a wine to go with cheese, however: if you have a strong cheese, drink a strong wine, and if you have cheese that is mild, pick a wine that is also mild. It is paramount that neither the wine nor the cheese is too strong and is the only flavor you can taste when eating your dinner.
But in the end, all formulas and rules do not matter if you do not like a particular wine or if you cannot stand a particular kind of cheese (such as spicy cheeses like pepper jack cheese). In the end, you have to decide on your taste which wine and which cheese work well together.
8 Facts about cheese
Almost everyone eats cheese on a regular basis, most of us every day. But what do we know about cheese? Here are five interesting facts about cheese that you might have not known before, including its production, its origin, and its current varieties.
The top producer of cheese worldwide is the United States, and in the United States, the states of Wisconsin and California produce the highest amount of cheese.
#2 Greece consumes most cheese
The most cheese per capita is consumed in Greece. Greeks ate 60 pounds of cheese on average per person in 2004. The second highest consumption per capita of cheese is in France. The French ate 52 pounds of cheese on average per person in 2004. Americans, on the other hand, consumed much less cheese: in 2004, they ate around 30 pounds of cheese on average per person.
#3 Cows are not the only animals that produce milk
Most cheese is made from the milk of cows and less so from the milk of sheep and goats. But there are many more animals that produce milk for cheese. There is even a milk producer in Sweden that makes moose cheese. That moose cheese is so valuable that two pounds of this cheese costs $1000.
#4 Monks invented most of the kinds of cheese we eat today
It's true. Monks were the ones who really upped the production of cheese in the 6th and 7th centuries. Presumably due to their secluded way of living, they had the means and time to experiment with different production methods, and were successful in developing new kinds of cheese.
#5 There are thousands of different cheeses
It is estimated that Great Britain alone knows of 700 different (local) kinds of cheese. France and Italy are estimated to have about 400 different kinds each. The reasons for such a variety depend on differences in production: the kind of milk used for the cheese, how long it is stored for, which substances are added during production, and so on. Some kinds of cheese are cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, and some categories for cheese include light cheese or even string cheese. And obviously, the number of cheese recipes and cheese snacks is almost unlimited. One great recipe is cheese fondue, which is originally from the French-speaking part of Switzerland, but has spread all over the world.
How to Make Cheese Fondue
If the weather outside is cold and just plain ugly, you do not want to go to a restaurant. Here is an alternative: The perfect dish to make on a cold winter day is cheese fondue. It automatically creates thoughts of a mountain cabin covered in snow, a roaring fireplace, simply a romantic atmosphere. Don't worry if you have never done cheese fondue before; it's easy. You just need to keep in mind some of the points mentioned here.
Obviously, you need all necessary tools and ingredients. There are not that many actually. First of all, you need a pot. When you are shopping for cheese fondue pots, it is recommended to not buy cheap pots because they often do not last very long. Try to pick one that is made of strong metal and is very resistant to high temperatures. You also need fondue forks. A cheese fondue dinner is not real and authentic if you do not have the classic fondue forks. Apart from cheese fondue forks, you also need something like a stove-top or a tabletop burner.
As for the temperature of the stove-top, you should keep the heat rather low, so the cheese can cook steadily and consistently. Watch out that the cheese does not burn without you noticing it when you are in an engaging conversation!
For the complete recipe, you will need buttermilk, some type of sliced cheese, flour, mustard, and perhaps some garlic. You might also want to serve some dipping choices, such as tiny pieces of bread, ham, asparagus, or any collection of vegetables that would taste well with cheese. In case you have left-over cheese from your cheese fondue, you can still use it as cheese snacks on the next day.
Note: If you use Swiss cheese, be careful because it often thickens up faster than other types of cheese, so you need to reduce its cooking time.
Instructions: Put the buttermilk in a pot, and heat it thoroughly. Put cheese and flour in, and add a bit of salt. Now stir regularly until the cheese is properly melted. Then put the whole mixture on a low flame and heat it. But be careful not to boil it or else the cheese will not be as thin and delicious as you want it to be.
It is usually best to not serve anything else before the cheese fondue. The reason is that the cheese can be quite heavy, and you don't want your guests or your date to be half-full already when the cheese fondue set comes on the table. So for starters, only serve very light appetizers, if at all. Along with the cheese fondue, wines are often a popular choice. Again, drink whichever wine you prefer, but make sure it's not a heavy one. The same is true for any dessert you might serve after the cheese fondue. It is recommended to serve something light, such as fruit or a salad.
Easy Recipe: Grilled Cheese Sandwich
One of the first recipes people learn to make is a grilled cheese sandwich. The beauty of this dish is that it is very easy to make but can be adapted and enhanced in virtually unlimited ways. So today, the basic recipe will be explained, along with a few interesting variations.
First of all, you obviously need cheese. The type of cheese is basically your own choice. Pick whichever cheese you like most! Usually, however, it is one of these kinds of cheese: American cheese, light cheese, or Swiss and Gouda cheese. Or if you like it spicy, use pepper jack cheese.
Then you need bread. As for the type of bread, the basic recipe uses toast or simple sandwich bread. But if you like it, it also works with darker bread. You may also use other flavors of bread, such as rye bread.
On to the interesting part. What do you put on a grilled cheese sandwich besides cheese? The usual ingredients are tomatoes and ham, but you can use whatever you like. Some ideas are herbs and spices to make the sandwich taste a little different than usual. You can also fry an egg and either put it on top of the sandwich, or as some foodies like it, put the fried eggs in between two grilled cheese sandwiches (warning: this won't be good for your waistline if you do this too often!)
Once you decided on what you want to have on your grilled cheese sandwich, you can get started. One of the reasons grilled cheese sandwiches are so popular is because all you need to make them is a typical pan. Nothing more. No preheating the oven, just a normal pan.
Now as for the actual grilled cheese recipe: Take two slices of the bread of your choice, butter one side of each slice, then place one slice with the butter face down and the other slice with the butter face up. It is important if you make grilled cheese that you put a lot of butter on each side of the sandwich. Then put the sliced cheese and ham and tomatoes, and whatever you like, in between the two slices. Put all of it in your pan and turn over after one or two minutes. You would want them to have a golden brown look in the end. After maybe three or four minutes at most, the sandwich should be ready, and you can serve it, and enjoy it!
Variations: You can put almost anything on your grilled cheese sandwich, but some fascinating options are:
- use a different kind of butter (herb butter or garlic butter)
- spice it up: use onions, chili/curry powder, oregano, olive oil, and garlic
- mushrooms
- meat. Yes, you can even use meat for your grilled cheese sandwich. You can use bacon, chicken, turkey or whichever meat you like!
What You Need to Know About String Cheese
We all know that there are hundreds of different types of cheese. Contrary to what you might have been told, string cheese is not one of them. Pepper jack cheese is a type of cheese while string cheese is a name that is used to describe different cheese types. We can characterize string cheese as being peelable. The milk type that is utilized will usually be taken from a sheep or goat that is older. Most of the choices will vary based on production methods that are used in the area. Armenian string cheese will include mahleb and black cumin. It will be sold and presented under the form of braided endless loops. The strings are formed due to how the cheese is pulled during the processing.
In Slovakia the traditional string cheese is named korbaciky. It is made with sheep milk salty cheese that is available unsmoked or smoked. Traditionally this type of cheese is created by pulling sheep cheese that is steamed into strings manually and then braiding them. There are also machine milk versions that are available. How to Make Spicy Spaghetti Pie
Spaghetti pie is a very interesting recipe that a family always loves. There are different variations possible and the cook can even make modifications so that personal touch can be added to the dish. One of the highly popular variations is a spicy spaghetti pie.
You are going to need 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and alternatively you can use pepper jack cheese. 4 ounces of dried and broken spaghetti pasta are also necessary. The other ingredients needed are 1 pound of pork sausage, 1 cup of chopped onions, 1 cup of sliced black olives, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, around 14 ounces of diced tomatoes with juices, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, one quarter of a tablespoon of red pepper, 1 third of a cup of tomato paste and 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese. You can play with the amounts but not too much as the taste would be modified and you might end up with a dish that you will not like. More peppers can be used for those that want a spicier desert. Keep in mind that the ingredients are intended for 6 servings. If you need more or less you need to adapt the quantities.
Preparing the spicy spaghetti pie starts with cooking the pasta just like it says on the package. Then you will need to drain it, rinse and then drain it again. Pour the cooked pasta in a nine inch deep pie plate. Make sure that the bottom is fully covered. Next you will want to sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and then set the dish aside.
The sausages, onions, olives and garlic need to be cooked over medium fire. You can stop cooking when the onions are tender and the sausages are brown. Make sure that you drain the pot used and stir everything with the tomatoes, the tomato paste, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and the red peppers. The mixture needs to be poured in the initial dish and then you will want to cover everything with foil.
Next we are going to bake the pie for around half an hour at 350 degrees Celsius. Parmesan cheese is used to sprinkle over the pie and as soon as it is done you will want to let it properly cool off for around 5 minutes before you serve.
In the event that you do not want the spaghetti pie to be spicy but you want to have a special flavor you can replace the red peppers with white or black peppers. Olives can also be replaced with mushrooms or other similar ingredients. The bottom line is that this is one recipe that you can easily play with. Some of the ingredients can be replaced and you can also add condiments that you really like. It is very hard to get it wrong with a spicy spaghetti pie.
How to Make Pepper Jack Cheese
There are hundreds of great cheese recipes that you can learn but few people think about the fact that they can actually make cheese types as well. A great example is pepper jack cheese, which you can make in the comfort of your own home. Let us see how this is done.
The first thing you need to do to create pepper jack cheese is to heat milk till around 88 degrees Farenheit. This is when the starter needs to be added and then you just wait for the milt to properly ripen at ninety degrees for around 30 minutes. If needed you can add diluted calcium chloride and then add finely chopped peppers. Remember that there are different peppers that can be used but these are the ones that are recommended by chefs that created cheese recipes. Make sure that you stir till everything is properly blended.
Now you will need to add diluted rennet and then let the cheese boil for another 30 minutes. The curd should be cut in cubes of a quarter of an inch and have to set for 40 minutes. Heat them to 100 degrees for half an hour and let them set for 5 minutes. The whey should be poured till the curd levels and wait 30 minutes while stirring every 5 minutes in order to avoid matting. A temperature of 200 degrees should be maintained.
The rest of the process is really easy and similar to any other cheese that you might want to make. The only real difference stands in the shape that you want to offer. Most people prefer a rectangular one for pepper jack cheese so you will want to press it while in the cheesecloth-lined mold with a wait for around 15 minutes. Turn it and press on the other side as well.
Waxing the pepper jack cheese might be a little more difficult. You need to first cool it properly in a refrigerator for at least half a day and melt the wax in a good double boiler. Apply it with natural bristle brushes and allow a few minutes to pass for cooling purposes. Remember that cheese was will dry very quickly and you will need a minimum of 2 thin coats in order to properly protect your cheese. The aging of pepper jack cheese needs to be done at 55 degrees for 1 to 4 months. In the event that you used raw milk you will need a minimum of 2 months. The more you make it age the sharper the taste that is going to be obtained.
Pepper Jack cheese can be used in numerous cheese recipes, especially when talking about cheese snacks. It is not that easy to make at home but with a little practice you will quickly notice that it is also not difficult. Just have patience and you will get the hang of it.

How to Find Good Cheese Recipes
There are different ways in which we can find great cheese recipes that range from cheese snacks to cheese fondue. The problem is that most people restrict their research and they will not be able to find as much as they would want to. For those that love cheese there is a need to know as many cheese recipes as possible. Let us think about how we can find as many as possible.
The most obvious place to look for cheese recipes is a recipe book. There are dozens available in most libraries from around the world. Make sure that you ask the shop owner about those books that include the most cheese recipes possible. Also, keep in mind that there are some cooking magazines that also offer different types of free recipes. You might want to look at them and see whether or not there are some cheese snacks recipes available in them.
The one place where we can easily find as many cheese recipes as we want to is the Internet. The problem is that few people actually know how to properly research anything online. There are hundreds of high quality cooking websites and recipe sites that surely have the articles that people need. The problem is in finding them.
Unfortunately most people will simply go to the first site that they locate through a regular Google, Yahoo or Bing web search. The trick is to find as many as possible and not just one. You will never find all of the recipes that you could gain access to if you look on just one site. Also, you should understand that there are also recipe sites that are not really good. This could be bad as you would end up cooking a meal that will not turn out good. When faced with difficult recipes like those for cheese fondue you will quickly see that everything needs to be perfect.
All about String Cheese
There are several different types of cheese that can be defined as string cheese. You can define string cheese as a cheese that when peeled apart from the larger chunk of cheese comes off in strings or strips. Most of the string cheese that you will find is made with an aged white cheese from a goat or sheep depending on the methods used to produce it. String cheese is made when you pull on it during processing; the more you pull it the stringier it will be.
You can freeze string cheese, if you like to buy in bulk. Freezing the cheese will not have any effect on the stringiness. Cheese that is frozen will keep for long periods of time; however, when you defrost the cheese it can’t be refrozen again. So make sure that you only defrost what you are going to eat at that time.
There are several different string cheeses that are a popular snack. There is a Mexican Oaxaca cheese that makes a really good string cheese. In America string cheese is mostly made out of mozzarella. When you purchase string cheese it will mostly come in packs that are individually wrapped. They are cylinder in shape and are no longer then six inches and no wider than one inch. Sometimes you can find string cheese that is mixed with cheddar, but mostly you will only find string cheese that is mozzarella. String cheese gets its name because you can pull strips of cheese from the main cylinder shape and when you pull it apart you will get strips of cheese that you can eat. String cheese has become a healthy cheese snack for many children. String cheese became a popular item in the early 90’s and is still a popular snack today.
If you are a fan of string cheese it can be possible for you to make your own. The process is not at all simple, but if you are willing to try, then there is a recipe that you can use to make string cheese. First you need to choose a cheese that you want to use. I would recommend using mozzarella since it’s popular and doesn’t cost that much. Then you melt the cheese in a saucepan. When the cheese is melted you then strain it to get off any water that has formed. When the cheese has cooled enough that you can pick it up, you then stretch it out and make a loop, fold the cheese over, and repeat the process. Repeat this stretching process about six times. Wrap your freshly made string cheese in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator. Now that you know how to make your string cheese, you can make fresh string cheese whenever you want. This is a nice snack for people of all ages. It’s something that is healthy for you and yet is still fun to eat.
